Cove Surf & Turf is a local favorite that serves up the freshest seafood in New Bedford. Local families, residents and tourists come to our restaurant for the fun ambience, first-class service and high-quality food. We’re looking for an experienced Front of House Manager to join our team.

Be the backbone of our operations.

The Front of House Manager will be the backbone of Cove Surf & Turf’s operations. We will depend on you to run our dining area efficiently, hire and train staff, ensure timely and accurate service, and contribute to the success and reputation of our restaurant. In this role, you will:

  • Greet incoming and departing customers to create a pleasant ambiance and experience.
  • Manage the flow of guests into the dining areas and provide accurate wait times.
  • Promptly answer incoming calls, take reservations, coordinate takeout and delivery services.
  • Maintain a clean dining area and implement safe working practices.
  • Develop strong communication and line reporting procedures to implement and improve processes that drive better service and cleanliness.
  • Coordinate and lead management report meetings with key business leaders.
  • Lead hiring, managing, scheduling and training of supervisors, team leads and staff members.
  • Motivate the team to achieve their daily productivity and quality goals.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for operational issues, customer inquiries and escalations.
  • Recommend continuous improvements to our processes, workflows and operations.
  • Monitor and support customer service inquiries and promotions on social channels.

 

Skills that you bring to the table

  • 2-3 years of experience in a high-traffic restaurant environment
  • Proven supervisory skills including hiring, coaching, disciplining, scheduling, conflict resolution and training
  • Basic computer proficiency with the ability to learn new applications and assist staff with questions or issues
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Integrity, detail-oriented, and customer-centric mindset
  • Strong leader with ability to motivate and deliver results
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, holidays and weekends, as necessary
  • Ability to manually lift and/or move items up to 50lbs

 

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $51,000.00 – $65,000.00 per year

A professional prep cook to prepare food to the exact restaurant’s specifications and to set up stations for menu. Duties will consist of assisting the kitchen team with daily tasks. Advancement opportunity available.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and stock stations with all necessary supplies
  • Prepare food for service (e.g. chopping vegetables, butchering meat, or preparing sauces)
  • Cook menu items in cooperation with the rest of the kitchen staff
  • Answer, report and follow chef’s instructions
  • Clean up station and take care of leftover food
  • Stock inventory appropriately
  • Ensure that food comes out in high quality and in a timely fashion
  • Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards
  • Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers

Requirements:

  • Fluency in reading and speaking English
  • Proven cooking experience, including experience as a line chef, restaurant cook or prep cook
  • Excellent understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures
  • Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks
  • Familiar with industry’s best practices
  • Reliable transportation

RESPONSIBILITIES

What You Can Expect Day-to-Day

Supporting food preparation for a busy kitchen, you’ll own and execute the following essential Line Cook activities:

  • Set up and stock stations with all necessary supplies
  • Prepare food for service (e.g., chopping vegetables, butchering meat, or preparing sauces)
  • Cook menu items according to the recipe in cooperation with staff
  • Answer, report, and follow the executive chef’s instructions
  • Clean up the station and manage leftover food
  • Stock inventory appropriately
  • Ensure high-quality food delivers punctually and simultaneously
  • Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards
  • Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers
  • Assist in other areas of the kitchen as needed


REQUIREMENTS

What it Takes

We are looking for an outgoing, skilled Line Cook committed to delivering an exceptional customer culinary experience and taking our restaurant to the next level.

Minimum Required:

Training for this role is minimum $16/hr. Experienced chefs can earn up to $25/hr (with 10+ yrs. of exp).

The restaurant operates Wednesday-Sunday from 10am-9pm

  • Fluency in English (both written and verbal)
  • Previous line cook or chef experience in a professional environment
  • Excellent understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures
  • Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks
  • Familiar with the industry’s best practices
  • Reliable transportation
  • Flexible schedule with the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary

Server skills

  • 2+ years waitstaff experience
  • Excellent customer service and hospitality skills
  • At least one positive reference from previous employer (hospitality industry preferable)
  • Comfort with Guest Center software a plus (POS)
  • Neat, well-groomed appearance
  • Ability to work well under intense time pressure
  • Excellent emotional control in fast-paced environments
